Durango Fire Protection District (DFPD) believes that hiring qualified individuals to fill positions contributes to the overall strategic success of DFPD. Each employee, while employed, is hired to make significant contributions to DFPD.


We are currently taking applications for Seasonal Wildland Firefighters and Reserve Firefighter/Medics


The Seasonal Wildland crew works approximately 15 weeks from mid-May until the end of August as members of type three or type six engines or as members of tactical tender crews. Seasonal Wildland firefighters report to an engine boss who supervises the engine crew. The positions are part-time, hourly, non-exempt shift positions with no benefits.

Minimum Qualifications to apply: High School Diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license and ability to take out of town assignments.

Preferred Qualifications: S-130, S-190, L180, ICS100, CPR, RT 130, Colorado Firefighter 1, Colorado or National Registry EMT Basic, Technical Rescue Certification, NWCG Firefighter Type 1.

To be considered for the interview process the following items are due no later than Wednesday, January 31st, 2018 at NOON MDT.

  • Copy of certifications.
  • Current copy of your driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles

Reserve Firefighter Medic positions are part-time, hourly, non-exempt shift positions with partial benefits. Please see the Reserve Program SOP’s which can be accessed on the right side of this page.

Minimum Qualifications to apply: High School Diploma or GED, Colorado Firefighter 1 or higher, Hazmat Operations, Colorado EMT Basic or higher, S-130, S-190, a valid driver’s license and ability to work 24 hour shifts.

To be considered for the interview process the following items are due no later than Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at NOON MDT.

  • Application for Employment – all sections completed
  • Resume
  • Copy of certifications verifying current CO Firefighter 1, Colorado EMT and S130/S190.
  • Current copy of your driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles
